TB missing from GW 7

Postby jeffbouldin » Wed Mar 03, 2010 9:29 pm

The owner of this TB (http://www.geocaching.com/track/details ... er=TB1R8RP) has posted on TB-Rescue.com that it was placed into GW7 and never logged out. I know this is a long shot, but does anybody recognize it? And if so, any ideas on who might have snagged it?

Sorry, I took a look and I do not remember seeing that one.

As with any event and especially a large event, bugs get logged into it which for one reason or another were never actually there. I can assure you that every single trackable that was actually brought to the event and was logged into our trackables area and was then picked up by a cacher to be moved to a new cache or event. There was a proven method for handling trackables on site that day which was very well handled by our volunteers. This is the same system that has been used for GW mega events for the last three years to account fo every single tb that passes through the trackable area. You may recall having to log your tb's in according to their goals and receiving tickets for them which must be exchanged to take any tb's out of the area. The few tb's that were still there at the end of the day were taken by volunteers and placed in area caches. At the end of the day all trackables were picked up and are now back out in the world. Sadly, sometimes people forget to log the TB's or lose them, but most often in cases like this the reason the TB is still listed in an event is because it never actually made it there.

There are still several tb's logged into the event, many of these are parts of private collections, some were never there, many are still riding around in people's cars and caching bags unlogged and some were lost after the event. You will also notice that there are hundreds of TB's logged into GW8, even though the event is still months away. It is a sad truth that tb's sometimes get lost and often when that happens, whether than owning up to it, people will simply log them into a big event and forget about them. This TB may show up again and it may be gone, but I can assure you that if it was at GWVII and got logged into our trackable area, then it left the event in the hands of a cacher. Things like this have a way of turning up again, I have TB's that disappear for a year or two and just when I am about to write them off they will resurface, so don't give up hope.

I told the owner that I would ask but I was not confident anybody would know. I explained that all dropped off were picked up and taken.

This last week I found a TB in a Puzzle cache and almost left it. But then I figured that it might sit for awhile since it was in a puzzle. Turns out it was last logged months ago in Texas. The owner was so happy to see it turn up.

May I suggest messaging AbbysGrammy? Still a long shot, but she worked the TB booth pretty much all day long, so *IF* she remembers, she'd be the only one...
