Magellan's Rugged iphone case

At $200, it's not cheap. Neither is replacing an iphone because it got wet or dropped. (I know several cachers that have had untimely replacements of their beloved handsets.) Adding (or improving) a GPS and doubling the battery makes it a more practical geocaching device, too.

There's a little plastic shim inside for the Touch and 3GS which are a little thinner than the originals. I imagine that's how they're doing iPhone 4, too, if it's similar in size in the other dimensions.

My phone gets me close enough but not great. Would this speed up the responsiveness?

It's not been announced yet, only that "the GPS in the case itself, which is more accurate than your 3GS/3G's chip." If they're going to go to the trouble (and expense) to put another GPS in the case, it would be reasonable to assume they're going to use a _better_ receiver/antenna combination.

If my goal was to "just" get a better GPS, I'd spend the $200 on a better GPS.
